Higher Up Texas DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION AND ACCESS DEFINITIONS
The following are descriptive of how Higher Up Texas strives to recognize barriers, break them, and empower all those affiliated within our reach.
DIVERSITY
One of the most critical life skills Higher Up Texas teaches is “Cultural Awareness & Appreciation.” We unpack cognizance of personal cultures and identities, validate different lenses of experience, and reinforce the importance of learning about others. Many fear the unknown and our organization strives to shift that paradigm.
EQUITY
Higher Up Texas meets each young adult where they are at in life. All HUT participants are respected as unique individuals with varying circumstances. We recognize that HUTs have a vision for their futures and may not have the resources to achieve them on their own. Equity is addressing the unique needs of each student to ensure them a path to success.
INCLUSION
Within our diverse community, Higher Up Texas strives to embrace and include members of all different backgrounds. Additionally, HUT students are given a framework, embodied by our core values, to develop a lens of inclusivity for use in their future relationships and interactions within the community and beyond.
ACCESS
Higher Up Texas staff and volunteers steady the ladder as our young adults climb to their dreams. Not everyone has the same opportunities, but everyone deserves a fair shot. To that end HUT builds networks to elevate how goals are achieved in spite of limitations.
